Kosmopedia

Kosmopedia.org is the first in Poland, and the most comprehensive compendium of knowledge about ingredients and other topics related to cosmetic products. The portal and the supporting consumer app (which will soon appear) have been developed on the basis of scientific knowledge and cooperation of companies from the cosmetics industry in Poland and Europe. It contains descriptions of several thousand substances, their functions in cosmetic products, properties and effects on the skin and the human body. In the coming months, this database will include nearly 30,000 ingredients.

The website is divided into 7 thematic sections, some of which are of key importance for the consumer: Safety,Environment (prepared with the Rekopol Packaging Recovery Organization),Facts and Myths and Trending, containing current, emotion inducing media and consumer topics.
Kosmopedia.org was launched in 2010 on the initiative of the Polish Union of the Cosmetics Industry, as the second portal of this kind in Europe (after British website The Facts about).

At the beginning of 2021, it underwent a major overhaul from an industry to a consumer portal. Currently, the final touch is being put on a free mobile app of the same name, which will complete the portal and give users access to nearly 30,000 descriptions of ingredients.

Changing the conditions of the market game, or why the new Kosmopedia was created

The 21st century seems to be dominated by the consumer. Nowadays, their role is crucial for the producers of many goods. It is the buyers who set the pace for regulatory change. Therefore, they must be aware of what products they are getting and where to look for verified information about them.

We observe with concern how nowadays simplified messages about what is tested, safe and legal in cosmetics flow to users from many information streams. Taking shortcuts inevitably leads to incorrect analysis and simply misleads consumers, adds Blanka Chmurzyńska-Brown. The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection manages this area on the Vistula River, which is why we asked them to look over Kosmopedia and recommend it to cosmetics users.

2-in-1 Kosmopedia, a portal full of knowledge and an app that gives consumers a real choice

From January this year the cosmetics industry in Poland in a dialogue with customers, but also more broadly - beauty industry professionals, pharmacists, retailers and trade representatives, journalists and opinion leaders, can use the knowledge of a new, extensive tool. Kosmopedia, consisting of an internet portal and a free mobile app that will soon be available, describes all the most important information about cosmetics in an accessible and science-based format. Its priority is to help the consumer expand and reach expert knowledge so that they can make the best choice for themselves or their loved ones - without pseudo-consulting or marketing messages. Tailored to the skin type and its needs.

The patronage of the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection for Kosmopedia is not only a honour. It is also a sign that state institutions understand the difficult situation which users of fast-moving consumer goods, including cosmetics, are currently facing, adds Blanka Chmurzyńska-Brown. Our priority is that the app, which will be released soon, helps consumers make informed choices. It will be the first tool in Poland to identify ingredients, not to evaluate products. Integrated with kosmopedia.org, it will have enormous educatio¬nal potential and most importantly, it will sell nothing but knowledge!
